New Orleans Relief :: Spring Break 2008
What Will I Be Doing?
There are still many homes left to gut, so we’re planning for everyone to spend a couple days gutting houses. Our relief team is also contacting city leaders to find other projects that would serve the community. Some examples of other projects we may do: clean up City Park, build playgrounds for kids, pick up trash in neighborhoods, etc.
Q: What will the week “look” and “feel” like?
A: We desire to keep the “feel” of the conference similar to last year. We want there to be lots of open space in the schedule. Each morning we will gather the groups to coordinate their work for the day. There will also be two evening gatherings during the week where we want to bring the whole group together for sharing and encouragement.
Students will arrive on Sunday evenings, work Monday through Thursday, and then depart Friday morning. The shortened week enables us to negotiate better housing rates with hotels, and gives our relief team on the ground a couple days to regroup and rest before the next wave of students arrives. And we have found from experience, most volunteers are pretty wiped out after four days of labor anyway!
